2024 David R. Sage Award Winner: Katie Cortes
Everwise Credit Union is pleased to announce that Katie Cortes, manager of its Chesterton and Valparaiso South branches, has been selected as the winner of the 2024 David R. Sage Exemplary Leadership and Service Award.
Presented annually, the award recognizes Everwise employees who demonstrate the leadership and values of former board chairman David R. Sage, who served in Everwise leadership for nearly four decades. Award winners are nominated by fellow employees and selected by the executive management team.
Cortes joined Everwise in 2018 as a teller in northwest Indiana and was promoted to assistant manager for two Valparaiso locations in 2019. In 2021, Cortes was promoted to her current position as manager of the Everwise Chesterton and Valparaiso South branches.
Cortes received this honor for her steadfast dedication to Everwise, its members, and the communities she serves. Her colleagues describe her as an inspiring leader who exemplifies the values of the credit union. Cortes fosters optimism, compassion, and understanding in every interaction, empowering her teams and positively influencing those around her.
“I am truly honored to be named the 2024 recipient of the David R. Sage Award,” said Cortes. “This recognition not only reflects my individual efforts but also highlights the values and commitment we embody at Everwise. The success of my team, the morale and accomplishments of our branches, and our dedication to delivering exceptional service to our members – helping them achieve their financial goals – are at the heart of everything I do.
“I am deeply grateful to be part of an organization that prioritizes service, leadership, and community engagement. This honor inspires me to continue making a positive impact alongside such an incredible team.”
Cortes’ contributions also extend beyond Everwise. She serves on the board of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce and leads networking initiatives like the Chamber's monthly Business Bingo Night. Cortes is also an active member of the Chamber’s finance committee and serves as the Chair of the Ambassador committee. She frequently represents Everwise at community events, advocating for local business owners and financial literacy. Since 2021, she has collaborated with Chesterton High School’s internship program, mentoring local students to enhance their financial knowledge. In addition, Cortes was nominated for a Northwest Influential Women Association’s Influential Women Award in 2022 and 2024.
